The Porsche GT2 RS Nordschleife record is back in Porsche’s hands. After losing to Lamborghini’s Aventador SVJ earlier in the summer, Porsche has reclaimed the title with an improved version of its fastest road-legal 911. This victory demonstrates the power of precise engineering and smart tuning in pushing boundaries on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

Porsche Takes Back the Record

The Nürburgring Nordschleife is one of the most challenging race tracks in the world, renowned for testing both driver and machine. Porsche’s factory driver Lars Kern had earlier completed the 20.8-kilometer circuit in 6:47 minutes in a standard GT2 RS. Lamborghini beat that time with a 6:45-minute lap using the Aventador SVJ. Porsche then returned to the track, this time in partnership with Manthey Racing, to prove its dominance once more.

How Manthey Racing Transformed the GT2 RS

Manthey Racing, Porsche’s long-time motorsport partner, focused on improving the car’s aerodynamics and suspension setup. Their upgrades made the GT2 RS more stable, faster, and sharper on corners. The result was stunning — the GT2 RS MR completed the lap in only 6:40 minutes, setting a new benchmark for road-legal cars.

Behind the wheel again was Lars Kern, whose experience on the Nordschleife played a key role in achieving the record. The MR designation stands for “Manthey Racing,” symbolizing the collaboration that helped Porsche outperform Lamborghini’s record.

Production vs. Tuned Car Debate

Unlike the Lamborghini Aventador SVJ, which remains a production car, the Porsche GT2 RS MR includes tuning modifications. These upgrades can be purchased by customers, but they make the car slightly different from the standard version. While both cars are road-legal, this difference fuels debate about which record truly represents the fastest “production” car.

Regardless, both Porsche and Lamborghini invested weeks of testing and fine-tuning before their official runs. At such a high level of performance, every second counts — and Porsche’s precision gave it the edge.

The Power Behind the GT2 RS

The Porsche 911 GT2 RS made its world premiere in June 2017 at Goodwood, UK. Its 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine delivers a massive 515 kW (700 hp) and 750 Nm of torque. Weighing just 1,470 kilograms, the car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.8 seconds and reaches a top speed of 340 km/h.

In September, Porsche also introduced the limited-edition Porsche 935, built on GT2 RS technology. Only 77 units will be produced, each designed for exclusive track use. This model continues Porsche’s legacy of combining heritage with innovation.

Porsche’s Legacy at the Nürburgring

The Porsche GT2 RS Nordschleife record highlights more than speed — it represents decades of racing experience and technical mastery. Manthey Racing’s tuning expertise and Porsche’s engineering excellence have once again raised the standard for what a road-legal car can achieve.

For Porsche fans, this win is more than just a lap time. It is proof that determination and precision can reclaim even the toughest titles on the most challenging track in the world.
